Designers to show at Fashion Week

Local and international designers have joined the roster of Honolulu Fashion Week for events Thursday to Saturday at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.

Among the visitors will be Dion Lee from Sydney, Pameo Pose from Tokyo, Greedilous from Seoul and Marissa Webb from New York. They will be joined by local designer Jeffrey Yoshida during “Hawaiian Airlines Presents: Runway to Runway” at 8 p.m. Friday.

Also in town will be New York-based menswear designer Asaf Ganot. The twin brother of Eran Ganot, coach of the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s men’s basketball team, will show a collection of athletic wear at 6 p.m. Thursday. Following the Ganot show will be “Neiman Marcus Presents: The Art of Fashion” at 8 p.m.

“Local Luxe” at 2 p.m. Friday will feature local brands Allison Izu, Andy South, Malia Jones, Ten Tomorrow and Kojo Couture, while “Live Aloha” at 4 p.m. Friday will highlight Noa Noa, ‘Iolani Sportswear, Manaola Hawai‘i and Manuheali‘i. Reyn Spooner will mark its 60th anniversary at 6 p.m. Friday with a showcase of fashion through the decades.

Manaola Hawai‘i and Kini Zamora will each have solo runway shows at noon and 2 p.m., respectively, on Saturday.

Japanese model Rinka will present her trendy lifestyle line Li Hua at 6 p.m. Saturday during “LeaLea Presents: RINKAgram.” And survivors of life-threatening diseases will walk the runway during “Hawai‘i Pacific Health Presents: Beautiful Survivors,” at 8 p.m. Saturday. Whiskers & Wags pops up at Ala Moana

The Hawaiian Humane Society has opened a fundraising holiday pop-up shop, Whiskers & Wags, at Ala Moana Center. The shop will feature logo items and Hello Kitty tote bags.

The boutique, next to Tommy Bahama on mall level 2, in the mauka wing, will be open Fridays to Sundays through Jan. 15.

Chanel opens its first full shoe salon in Honolulu

Chanel opened its first U.S. boutique in Hawaii on Sept. 1, 1984, in Ala Moana Center. And while there are many other cities across the globe that can lay claim to the title of most fashionable city, the luxury-goods company saw no reason to break from tradition when it chose to open its first free-standing shoe salon where history was made 32 years ago.

The new Chanel Shoe Salon opened its doors Wednesday at Ala Moana, across from the original Chanel boutique, which also celebrated its grand reopening the same day with the debut of Chanel’s 2016-17 Cruise Cuba collection.

While there have been temporary pop-up Chanel shoe events over the years in Paris and other cities, the Hawaii store is the first permanent site to carry the brand’s full range of footwear, including booties and high boots for winter, holiday sandals, dress sneakers, ballerina slippers and loafers.

Change colors at makeup event

Whether your taste runs to punk blackout eyes, a modern goth’s dark-ruby lips or adult glitter, you’ll have a chance to view fall’s biggest beauty trends during Bloomingdale’s “The Makeup Date,” taking place 9 a.m. Saturday in the cosmetics department.

The holiday beauty event will be hosted by KHON2’s Trini Kaopuiki, host of “Living808,” and weather anchor Justin Cruz. Makeup artists will be offering one-on-one sessions for trying on the trends firsthand. Shoppers will take home an exclusive tote bag and those who purchase $125 or more in cosmetics will receive a limited-edition cosmetic bag. A $25 reservation fee will be credited toward a beauty purchase of your choice that day. Reserve at your favorite beauty counter.

Bloomingdale’s will also celebrate its first anniversary at Ala Moana Center from noon to 2 p.m. Friday. Stop by Fine Jewelry for a treat from a cupcake tower and a reusable tote.

Local jewelry design company Ki-ele will also make its Bloomingdales debut.
