The University of Hawaii softball team shut out Hawaii Hilo 3-0 on Saturday at Patsy Mink Field in Kahului.
Rainbow Wahine pitchers Brittany Hitchcock and Kanani Aina Cabrales combined for the shutout. Hitchcock pitched the first four innings, allowing two hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. Aina Cabrales earned the three-inning save, giving up just one hit while striking out four and walking none.
The Wahine scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning after consecutive singles by Heather Morales, Rachel Turner and Aina Cabrales.
Starter Billie Derleth was sharp for the Vulcans, blanking the ‘Bows and surrendering just one hit with no walks or strikeouts. Danielle Wilson was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs in the fourth.
HPU upsets Alaska-Anchorage
Chauncey Orr had 22 points and 10 rebounds and Connor Looney added 20 points as the Hawaii Pacific men’s basketball team beat No. 12 Alaska-Anchorage 77-71 on Saturday at Moanalua High School.
The Sharks improved to 2-0.
Sekou Wiggs and Diante Mitchell both finished with 18 points for the Seawolves (2-2).

Dantley Walker had 15 points, and Kuany Kuany and Austin Pope both finished with 10 rebounds for the Silverswords (2-0). Brandon Davis scored 17 points for the Nanooks (0-2) in the PacWest/GNAC Challenge.
>> Also in the PacWest/GNAC Challenge, Parker Farris scored 27 points and Darius Johnson-Wilson added 21 points and nine rebounds, but it was not enough as Hawaii Hilo lost to Seattle Pacific 88-80 in Seattle.
Joe Rasmussen finished with 21 points and Coleman Wooten had 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Falcons (2-0). The Vulcans drop to 1-1.
Hawaii Hilo falls to Academy of Art
Marley Strand-Nicolaisen had 14 kills and Sienna Davis finished with 25 assists, but Hawaii Hilo lost to Academy of Art 27-25, 25-23, 26-24 in a PacWest volleyball match in Oakland, Calif.
Kabrina Speakman had 17 kills for the Urban Knights (7-19, 5-12 PacWest). The Vulcans fell to 9-14, 7-11.

Bianca Alvarez finished with 21 kills and 19 digs for the Argonauts (9-17, 7-11). The Silverswords dropped to 15-12, 9-9.
