Tanner Nelson recorded a team-high 18 points for the BYU-Hawaii men’s basketball team in a 75-50 loss to No. 12 Alaska Anchorage on Friday in Anchorage, Alaska.
D McCleary added 13 points for the Seasiders (0-2) in their first matchup of the Seawolf Jamboree. Four Seawolves scored in double-digits, led by Sekou Wiggs’ 21 points. Corey Hammell posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds for Alaska Anchorage (3-2).
Chaminade men’s hoops signs 3 players
Chaminade men’s basketball coach Eric Bovaird announced Thursday the signing of three players for the 2017-18 season.
Christian Drayton, a 6-foot-8 forward, and Kane Keil, a 6-6 guard, attend Barstow Community College (Calif.).
Last season, Drayton, of Lufkin, Texas, averaged a team-leading 16.9 points per game and led the California Community College Athletic Association at 13.3 rebounds.
Keil, of Auckland, New Zealand, averaged 10.2 points and shot 45.4 percent from 3-point range last season.
Troy Mickelson, a 6-1 guard from Olympia, Wash., attends Capital High School. Last season at Black Hills High School, he averaged 20.7 points per game.
Lau signs with UH women’s tennis
Taylor Lau, a two-time state singles champion from St. Francis, has signed with the University of Hawaii women’s tennis team for the 2018 season, coach Jun Hernandez announced Thursday.
Lau, of Honolulu, won state titles as a freshman and junior. She also won the Interscholastic League of Honolulu title and was state runner-up as a sophomore.
