The Hawaii Pacific men’s basketball team extended its win streak to three games with a 101-53 victory over Oakland City at the Moanalua High gym Saturday.
Elliot DeFreitas went 7-for-9 on field goals and ended with 16 points to lead the Sharks offense.
Andrew Scott had a game-high 26 points for the Mighty Oaks in the loss.
Oakland City fell to 1-1 for the season, while Hawaii Pacific improved to 3-0.
Brigham Young-Hawaii comes up short
The BYU-Hawaii men’s basketball team fell short, losing 71-68 to Alaska Fairbanks in Anchorage, Alaska, on Saturday.
Tanner Nelson recorded a career-high 35 points, while Denhym Brooke had a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 17 rebounds for the Seasiders.
Zach Pederson had 15 points and Banagaly Kaba added 14 for the Nanooks in the victory.
The Seasiders’ largest lead was 52-39 with 12 minutes left before the Nanooks rallied back.
BYU-Hawaii is 0-3 and Alaska Fairbanks is 2-3.
Chaminade women fall to Oakland City
The Chaminade women’s basketball team tried to rally from a 15-point deficit, but fell to Oakland City 84-79 at the Moanalua High gym Saturday.
Lilia Maio scored 19 points to lead the Silverswords, while Kristle Henry added 17.
Olivia Carroll scored 23 points and Chelsea Jellison added another 21 to help improve the Mighty Oaks improve to 1-1.
Chaminade volleyball team ends with loss
The Chaminade women’s volleyball team closed out the 2016 season in a 25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 23-25, 15-13 loss to Hawaii Pacific on Friday.
The Silverswords were led by Daisia La Brie with a team-high 17 kills and Kira Long with 13.
Cassie Rushlow finished with 11 kills and Kim Spring had six kills in their final match for Chaminade.
Pomai Recca ended her career with 24 kills and 16 digs for Hawaii Pacific, helping to lift the Sharks to 17-12 overall and 13-7 in the PacWest.
