Wahine volleyball’s Taylor named National Player of the Week

    UH Rainbow Wahine Nikki Taylor hit one off the hands of Cal Poly Mustangs Raeann Greisenon on Sept. 25 at the Mott Athletics Center. UH won the match 3-1 (32-34, 27-25, 25-17, 25-20).

Hawaii senior opposite Nikki Taylor today was named the AVCA National Player of the Week, the second such honor of her career and the ninth for the Rainbow Wahine program.

The reigning Big West Player of the Week had a combined 37 kills with eight aces in last week’s wins over Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara, helping Hawaii (22-5, 15-1) successfully defend its Big West title and give coach Dave Shoji his 1,200th career victory. Against the Gauchos on Saturday, she had 22 kills and 11 digs for her sixth double-double of the season, and exceeded the 20-kill mark for the seventh time this year.

The Kaiser High product earned her first national award on Sept. 15, 2015. Last season, she was named a second team All-American and the Big West Player of the Year.

Hawaii has a bye week and will learn its NCAA postseason fate on Sunday when the 64-team field is announced.
