Restaurateur D.K. Kodama opens his eighth restaurant later this month, a gastropub called Shearwater Tavern in Kihei, Maui.
The gastropub will feature craft beers and beer-friendly foods such as pizzas baked in a wood-fired oven, smoked turkey drumsticks, lobster rolls and a beer-braised oxtail poutine.
The tavern is named for the wedge-tailed shearwater, a bird that nests near the shoreline. Kodama said a colony of shearwaters once could be found near the new restaurant’s location, in the Azeka Mauka Shopping Center, 1279 S. Kihei Road.
Hours will be 5 to 10 p.m. daily. Call 808-793-2324.
Kodama’s DK Restaurants company owns the Sansei Seafood & Sushi Bar chain and Vino Italian Tapas and Wine Bar.
