Kiran Shastri scored 23 points, including what proved to be two game-clinching free throws with 13 seconds left, as Chaminade held on for a 76-75 victory over Dominican in a PacWest men’s basketball game Saturday night at McCabe Gym.
Rohndell Goodwin added 18 points and Austin Pope 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Silverswords (6-5, 3-2 PacWest). Jeremiah Gray led the Penguins (3-7, 2-2) with 23 points, including a 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining that pulled Dominican to within the final score.

>> Chauncey Orr scored 24 points and added 15 rebounds as Hawaii Pacific remained undefeated with a 97-69 win over Brigham Young-Hawaii at Cannon Activities Center.
Jordan Martin added 18 points, including three 3-pointers, and Connor Looney had 12 points for the Sharks (10-0, 4-0 PacWest ). Tanner Nelson and Denhym Brooke each had 16 points for the Seariders (3-8, 1-1). Gabriel Andrade added 14 points.
Chaminade women fall to Dominican
Alanna Scott hit a 3-pointer with 67 seconds left to break a 77-77 tie and Dominican went on to defeat Chaminade 82-77 in a PacWest women’s basketball game at McCabe Gym.
Sandra Ikeora led the Penguins (6-5, 2-2 PacWest) with a game-high 31 points and Taylor Donnot added 16 points.
Destiny Castro led the Silverswords (1-7, 1-4) with a career-high 22 points and Lilia Maio added 19. Also in double figures for Chaminade were Courtney Kaupu with 11 and Kristle Henry with 10, the latter adding a team-high 11 rebounds.
In nonconference women’s games:
>> Safia Sheikh scored 16 points and BYU-Hawaii held off Ursuline College 62-57 at Cannon Activities Center.
Kristin Baldwin finished with a double-double (11 points, 15 rebounds) and Marian Sheikh added 10 points for the Seasiders (5-5). The Sheikh sisters combined for all 11 of BYUH’s points in an 11-2 run that put the Seasiders ahead for good at 51-44 with 4:20 to go.
Brian Wymer had 18 points and Camryn Hill 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Arrows (6-4).
>> Autummn Williams scored 19 points and No. 8 Alaska Anchorage had little trouble at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium, downing Hawaii Hilo 78-39.
The Seawolves (10-1) opened the game with a 13-0 run and were never threatened the rest of the way. The nation’s Division II runner-up last season led 24-4 after the first quarter.
Kim Schmetz scored eight points for the Vulcans (1-6).
Beach pair to USA trials
Hawaii beach volleyball players Morgan Martin and Amy Ozee will team up to compete in next week’s USA Volleyball U21 trials in Chula Vista, Calif.
The freshmen are seeded seventh out of 17 pairs opening pool play Wednesday. The top two pairs advancing from Friday’s bracket play will represent the U.S. at the FIVB U21 Beach Volleyball World Champions in Nanjin, China, next June.
Martin, an AVCA high school All-American out of Capistrano Valley (Calif.) High, took gold in the inaugural FIVB U17 World Championships two years ago with partner Kathryn Plummer. Ozee, a Seabury Hall graduate, was the state prep high jump champion for the Spartans as a sophomore.
Amateur boxing today at Palolo
Boxers from Oahu and Kauai will compete at today’s Hawaii Amateur Boxing smoker at Palolo District Park gym.
The card will feature up to 15 bouts and begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $12 at the door.
