No tsunami threat following M6.4 Solomon Islands quake

    Solomon Islands was struck by a 6.4 earthquake tonight.

No tsunami is expected after a 6.4-magnitude earthquake tonight in the Solomon Islands.

The tremor occurred at 6:21 p.m. Hawaii time, about 50 miles west northwest of Kirakira, and at a depth of about 6.8 miles, according to the US Geological Survey.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach said there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii and a destructive pacific-wide tsunami is not expected.
