Utah too much for UH in Diamond Head Classic
Utah’s Diamond Head Classic drought came to an end against the tournament host.
Playing without leading scorer and rebounder Kyle Kuzma, the Utes clamped down defensively and held Hawaii to 29 percent shooting in a 66-52 victory on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Junior David Collette finished with a game-high 17 points and nine rebounds to lead the Utes (8-3), who improved to 3-0 in games after a loss and won for the first time in five attempts in the DHC after finishing eighth out of eight teams in 2010.
Jack Purchase had 13 points and Brocke Stepteau added 11 points for Hawaii (4-7), which has scored 97 points in two tournament games.
Hawaii will play Southern Mississippi in the seventh-place game on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

I watched the game, playing against big physical men our kids had no chance, nice try bows. don’t give up.
Bows are done for the Year. It is an unhappy team to watch.
Not over till the fat lady like sing.
Give em’ a break Allie. They piecing together a brand new team. It even took God more than a couple days to create the heavens and earth. Can’t we give Ganot a chance.
Ganot’s formula for winning games this season, have his AD Buddy schedule teams with losing records that finished in last place or second to last place in conference last year. Still hasn’t won a game against a team with a winning record.
zzzzzzzzzzzzz ….
What do expect him to do with the the ridiculous NCAA sanctions that he had nothing to do with? He’s making the best of a bad situation and is just trying whatever can be done to get thru this period. As fans we need to help him and these kids by supporting them not bashing them!
And, did you really expect them to be any different given their lineup?
MUCH better effort tonight. Crowd got behind you towards the end as we could see the effort so hang in. Utah just too big.
Utah is a NBA team as Bob Hogue would say, “With All that Jazz.”
(In Utah, basketball is almost a religion)
The home team came out flat 2nd once again and very sloppy play, all blame is on coach Ganot.
