A 31-year-old woman died after she was allegedly fell out of a pickup truck and was run over by one of its tires in Kailua-Kona over the weekend.
She has been identified as Bristol Thompson of Kona.
At approximately 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Thompson was in the front passenger seat of a 2015 Dodge Ram truck traveling south on Alii Drive near the intersection with Queen Kalama Avenue when she fell out of the truck and was run over by one of the rear tires, according to a news release from the Hawaii County Police Department.
It’s unknown at this time what happened inside the vehicle before she fell out.
Police said Thompson was taken to Kona Community Hospital in a personal vehicle and flown to Queen’s Medical Center where she was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon.
Police arrested the truck driver, a 20-year-old Kealakekua man, on suspicion of first-degree negligent injury and operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant. He was released pending further investigation.
The police department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit has initiated a negligent homicide investigation. An autopsy will be conducted to determine Thompson’s exact cause of death.

Seriously?!
this practice of riders in a truck bed is just dangerous and wrong
Yes, true. Although that doesn’t apply here. “Thompson was in the front passenger seat…”
Hey. Millennials never get all the facts. hehehe
Allie, you have bad comprehension.
“A 31-year-old woman died after she was allegedly fell out of a pickup truck and was run over by one of its tires in Kailua-Kona over the weekend.” Only the best writers on SA’s staff.
I don’t know about these writers anymore….a couple of days ago the article on Auntie Debs spoke about the Haleiwa Correctional Facility and they never corrected it.
Condolences to the family and friends of Bristol.
You don’t fall out of the front passenger seat if you wear your seat belts. Chances are she jumped……
Maybe she was sitting on the side window frame when the window was down & fell backwards out of the truck cab.
