Bill and Hillary Clinton to attend Trump inauguration

Hillary Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, greet supporters after voting in Chappaqua, N.Y.

WASHINGTON >> Falling in line with tradition, Bill and Hillary Clinton plan to attend Donald Trump’s inauguration. It’s a decision that will put Hillary Clinton on the inaugural platform as her bitter rival from the 2016 campaign assumes the office she long sought.

The Clintons announced their decision to attend the Jan. 20 inauguration shortly after former President George W. Bush’s office said Tuesday he would attend along with former first lady Laura Bush.

The Bushes are “pleased to be able to witness the peaceful transfer of power — a hallmark of American democracy — and swearing-in of President Trump and Vice President Pence,” Bush’s office said in a statement.

It is traditional for former presidents and their spouses to attend the inauguration.

But the decision to attend was fraught for the Clintons, given Hillary Clinton’s bitter campaign against Trump. The 2016 Democratic presidential nominee has largely avoided public appearances since Trump defeated her in November.

Bush, too, has had a difficult relationship with Trump. His brother Jeb ran against Trump in the GOP primaries. George and Laura Bush let it be known they voted for “none of the above” for president rather than cast a ballot for Trump, but the ex-president did call to congratulate Trump after his victory.

Former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, earlier said they plan to attend Trump’s inaugural.

Former President George H.W. Bush, 92, and his wife, Barbara, do not plan to attend the inauguration due to the former president’s age and health, his office said.

  • We found Waldo. Hurray! America missed a huge opportunity to elect the nation’s first woman president. I’m still mystified how ultra-smart progressives were soundly beaten by uneducated white supremacists. Maybe some of the more enlightened among us have an explanation.

    • That’s a huge, lame generalization. I hope that was meant as sarcasm and possibly humor. As if everyone that voted for HiLIARy is super smart, and everyone that voted for Mr. Trump is retarded. There are 63 million of us that voted for the Trumpster, and I’m confident some of us are doing pretty well.

      • It was meant to showcase the arrogance and condescension of the MSM and progressive democrats. They were a bit overconfident going into the general election predicting a huge loss for the Trumpster. They insulted his supporters by smearing them as racist, under-educated white men. Now they are feeling the backlash of their childish behavior as the democrat party is in ruins. The truth is that many Barry and Waldo voters are intolerant and closed minded. They alienated a good slice of the electorate and still have not learned a lesson from it.

        • Enjoy it while you can. Already, republicans are showing themselves to be the new swamp. Congratulations on preventing people from voting. It worked.

Sadly now you have to perform. Lets see if you can get the dow up to 25000 or will it soon fall to 15000. Amazing no republican has ever said what they are most proud of with today’s republicans. Just don’t blame Obama when the deficit exceeds a trillion. ok.

        • @ boots
get your second helpings of deep fried CROW while the gettings good as the dish is rapidly running out due to the scores of the majority popular vote sore losers! lol

        • IRT Boots: Who was prevented from voting and in what manner? Are you referring to Black Panthers intimidating voters in Philadelphia in 2008? Oh right, that never happened since Barry’s DoJ swept it under the rug.

        • lespark – You’re obsessed with crow, huh?

You see, you guys don’t understand that Trump’s win has invigorated the truly patriotic organizations like the ACLU and SPLC. We’re much too busy planning a strategy to fight and humiliate Trump to find any time to eat crow. Patriots are going to trip up Mr. Trump every single time he does anything that crosses the Constitution. Like his planned executive order about tariffs. We’re not going to just whine like Democrats. We’re going to file lawsuit after lawsuit.

          Great times coming for patriots!

        • Another sad day for the loser lawyer klastri. Very sad one can’t handle defeat. I guess he missed the class in grad school. Cricket

        • @ sarge22
KKKlastri is no lawyer…impersonator on a puter on a coconut tree yes.
          S/he stated GW appointed s/he to a Fed Judgeship…REALLY!?
          I rest my case!

January 20 will be an historic day..#MAGA

        • Keonigohan, I notice you have never said what you were most impressed with republicans with? Why is this? Will you admit the republicans are total failures if the dow falls to 15000, the deficit rises to over a trillion and unemployment rises to 10%. I will be the first to say the Donald is not bad if the dow rises to 25,000, deficit remains at under 500,000 and unemployment drops to 3%. Which do you think is more likely to happen? Being a republican I am sure you have forgotten the great results the prior republican president gave us?

Just remember your hero lost the popular vote. I just remember how you republicans treated Clinton when he won with only a plurality. Donald doesn’t even have that. Your hypocrisy is showing.

        • @ boots
          1. I notice there’s no “lol”…you must be sad.
          2. I go by actions and results, I go by wait & see mode. I don’t go by Hope & Change like you liberals. I also don’t speculate like how you do..there’s always alot of “IF”s in your posts.
          3. Money is not my BEST FRIEND like how you treat/treasure it. Obviously you don’t have much in human contact.
          4. There you & your gang go again about the “popular vote”…go look for “nun”‘s post as he/she described what the Electoral/Popular vote is about.
          5. You LOST in a LANDSLIDE, We WON in a LANDSLIDE.
          6. Move on, get over it, cease sulking, stop with your false “lol”. Eat CROW.

January 20th..#MAGA set up your DVR…or VCR.

        • Keonigohan, perhaps I am a bit sad as I expect the Donald to continue the failed policies of recent republicans. I know you have already forgotten G W Bush but he came in when the country actually had a surplus but when he left the deficit had grown to over a trillion. So yes I am sad that we are probably taking a step backwards and will weaken our financial position in the world. Hopefully this won’t cost the Dollar being used as the world’s reserve currency. That would really hurt. But I also have a little hope for the Donald. I like the fact that he is against American intervention in support of the neocons. Whether this lasts though is a big question. I also like the fact that he is the first republican in ages who doesn’t look upon Russia as the evil empire.

      • Thanks to having Obama as president these past 8 years. lol After all he has reduced the budget deficit significantly, reduced unemployment, has seen continual growth during his 8 years, etc. etc, etc

I suspect the republican will back track on many of their issues such as repealing Obama care. If they do away with it, republicans will have to deal with the problem of a big increase in uninsured. Good luck to those rural hospitals in red states.

    • All the hate mongers have come out of the woodwork to proclaim their proud support for Trump. We’ll see if they will be singing the same tune a year from now when the GOP and Trump’s base has had enough and impeaches his behind. That’s if the world manages to survive intact until then.

      • I think it is just as likely that the Donald will do an about face and do a number of things that will anger his base. The Donald is not tied to republican thinking. He is no dummy and should realize the results of republican rule. The Donald I am sure would not like to see the dow fall to 10,000.

The Donald could easily be impeached as it appears that he will continue to have lots of conflicts of interests. It will be interesting to see how Turkey will play out?

  • Hope hiLIARy stays off the sauce long enough to walk, steadily, to her seat.
Best check Bubba’s walk and his exposed to view areas for any signs of bruising..or heavily piled on make-up on face etc.

    January 20 #MAGA!

    • FYI, got this from someone.

Whether Democrat, Republican or Independent, here’s something to think about:
We hear a cacophony of blaring and bleating from the media and the Hillary supporters that she won the popular vote and therefore she should be president, 60,839,497 to 60,265,847.  47.8% to 47.3% with the remaining 4.9% going to the other candidates.  But here is a more in-depth analysis:
Trump won the popular vote in 31 states to her 19 and DC.  62% to her 19%.  Trump led in the total popular vote for all states except California.  She won California 5,860,714 to his 3,151,821.  61.6% to 33.1% exclusive of the other candidates.  Thus California gave Hillary the popular vote for all states as claimed by the Democrats and their media supporters.
But deduct her California vote from her national vote, it leaves her with 54,978,783, and deduct Trumps California vote from his national total, it leaves him with 57,113,976, he wins in a landslide in the total for the other 49 states, 51.3% to her 48.7%.
So, in effect, Hillary was elected president of California and Trump was elected president of the rest of the country by a substantial margin.
This exemplifies the wisdom of the Electoral College, to prevent the vote of any one populace state from overriding the vote of the others.
With our voter registration available when getting a driver’s license combined with undocumented immigrants allowed driver’s licenses we have no controls in place to keep non-citizens from voting.
So I ask you, frankly, do you REALLY want California voters to elect your presidents for you?  Or any other heavily populated state?  It would be like the tail wagging the dog.  The average state has 8.7 members in the US House of Representatives. California has 53.  If states weren’t restricted to two senators each, CA would have 12.
If there were no electoral college, candidates would only campaign probably in CA and NY…. all they would need to win.
The founding fathers never cease to amaze me with their foresight and wisdom.

      • Deduct California? Why stop there? If you’ve come up with a totally useless and foolish formula, why not make it more defective?

This is how your brian works? Are you eight years old?

        • @Klastri; who’s the 8yr old giving the reply. The information was from someone else that I have said before. Why don’t you do some research before you a little spew and see if the statement is wrong or correct. The 31 states that Trump won to Hillary 19 states in the general is true. The truth hurts doesn’t it. Rant all you like, Don’t waste my time.

        • Cricket klastri—“This is how your brian works? Are you eight years old?”..How is Brian doing? Haven’t heard from him lately. I wasn’t aware that Brian and you were the same age.

        • @ nun
You shamed KKKlastri with facts…s/he gets info from CNN…sad. Am surprised s/he didn’t call you a racist.

        • Here’s something for you’re “brian” to chew sirmam klastri, Commifornia is the only state in the union with a push to secede; it is justified that without its voting base that Trump killed it…

Go back to you’re hole and whine on your own time please. Oh by the way, YES you’re candidate lost the election.

  • Hillary should be watching the inauguration for her jail cell. However it will be great to watch her squirming in her seat with her big fake smile.
She can close her eyes and make believe that she is being inaugurated.

  • Clintons are only attending to watch what a total fail the inauguration entertainment(?) is going to be. Hopefully, they can stay awake and/or keep from laughing through the boring Rockettes, Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and game show runner-up singer performances.
Everyone in the world knows a Democratic inauguration would have brought a full star studded lineup of talent that would have thrilled everyone.
Too bad Puppet Master Putin’s pudgy puppet Presidiot-elect can’t garner real entertainment. Plus side is that Trump can go to bed early, and get some good sleep before turning the U.S. government over to corporate control.

  • My first post to Keonigohan was to make everyone understand the importance of the electoral college, and how the popular vote can be deemed unfair to allot of other states. I got it from a reliable source, if anyone wants to challenge it, go ahead, but research and back it up before spewing insults. I’ve been watching allot of post and comments by everyone, and finally had to say something about the popular votes that so many democrats on here claim. I’m not here to trash or judge anyone’s comments, I don’t know you and it’s so easy to try and belittle someone on any post. Trump is the new President now, judge him after 4 yrs. We gave Obama 8 yrs. So now the conservatives are giving their comments about him, whether it’s true or not, as the liberals are fighting back. I’m done with this post.
