The Edge is a new bar and restaurant established by the owner of Tamura’s Fine Wine & Liquors. Pictured are the Taro Wrapped Kauai Prawns, $14.

The Edge by Tamura’s is up and running in Kaimuki and is already so busy that no grand-opening festivities are planned.

The restaurant has been operating since its soft opening in early December by Tamura Enterprises Inc., parent company of Tamura’s Fine Wines & Liquors, which has multiple locations on Oahu and Maui.

Specialties include kurobuta lechon kawali, braised short ribs, Korean-style spare ribs and an Aloha Tower of sushi, as well as shareable plates.

President Glenn Tamura monitored the restaurant industry for at least 10 years for the right time and location to open a restaurant.

“It’s in the neighborhood where my store and warehouse are, so it made sense to stay in Kaimuki and have our original restaurant here,” he said

Tamura Enterprises bought the location from restaurateur Kevin Hanney in October.

At 3605 Waialae Ave. the spot previously housed Salt Kitchen & Tasting Bar, Hale Ohuna and Avenues Bar + Eatery. The Edge is open from 5 p.m. to midnight Tuesday through Thursday and on Sundays, and from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations are accepted.

The company began building the culinary team years ago, Tamura said.

“Chef Scott Sagon and corporate chef Aaron Siguenza are both chefs with extensive backgrounds in local food, and Albert Tsuru is known to everyone from his Side Street Inn days,” he said.

The beers, wines and spirits available at The Edge are from the same suppliers that service the stores, so customers who might be hesitant “about buying a whole bottle of a specialty single malt of bourbon … can come to The Edge and try hundreds of different liquors and wines, many of them exclusive to our stores,” Tamura said.
