Yair Rodriguez handed B.J. Penn his fourth consecutive loss with a second-round TKO in the main event of UFC Fight Night 103 tonight in Phoenix.
Rodriguez, 23, improved to 6-0 in the UFC and 11-1 overall with a one-sided victory over Penn, who was making his return after a 30-month layoff. Rodriguez proved his status as a top-10 featherweight, landing 55 significant strikes to just four for Penn (16-11-2, 12-10-2).
The end came 24 seconds into the second round when Rodriguez nailed Penn with a front kick and a punch combination that knocked down the 37-year-old former lightweight and welterweight champion.
Rodriguez pounced on top of Penn and landed roughly 20 to 25 ground-and-pound strikes before referee Jon McCarthy stopped the fight.

BJ has a business intrest in UFC and he took this fight because his opponent is a young and up coming star and UFC needed a big name to get him more credibility. It was pretty obvious.
He took the fight because he belongs in the subspecies (along with all the blood thirsty spectators) left on the dead end of the evolutionary scale (right next to the Neanderthals, or behind it).
That is so offensive to the Neanderthals.

Thought it was reported that he has no ownership stake in any UFC business but only gets a commission for the use of his name to draw in other Neanderthals into the gyms in Hawaii.
Only reason i can think of why he took the fight: He must be out of money. From moment one he looked like a drunk that staggered into the ring by mistake. He should have no news coverage, he is washed up.
I think he took the fight because he needs the money. Everyone including BJ knew he would lose, you can’t compete at the UFC level when you’re 38 and face much younger, stronger and faster fighters.
He was a good fighter in his day but is just embarrassing himself now.
I wonder why his entourage was carrying the Hawaiian Flag Upside Down ?? I did not like that and when he lost OH Well !
The upside down flag was more a symbol of Hawaiian sovereignty, a “distressed nation”.
They upside downers looked just poor educated. . BJ is not a Hawaiian, nor is he political. He just got pounded as we knew he would be. His head was just easy target practice for a far better fighter. He needs to retire before he is further embarrassed.
Thats right it was about the money, he needs it bad. Didnt bother to train. One more paycheck he begged Dana White who has a soft spot for him. A couple of outstanding years than the lazy took over. What a disgrace for us local fans. Fighters that dont train have no business getting a paycheck.
time to move forward instead of being distressed..if anyone in hawaii should be prospering it is the hawaiian race..so much programs and scholarships to help them out..i guess we just like to be lazy and play the sympathy role

Agree. BJ’s one of the greatest UFC fighters in the world and has nothing more to prove. It’s time for him to hang ’em up and focus on new challenges. He’s still a young man with a lot to give to his sport and Hawaii. We’ll be looking forward to the next stage in his life.

He wasn’t stopped. He was run over. He had no business being in the ring. He embarrassed me as a Native Hawaiian by walking in with the Hawaiian Flag upside down. No true warrior would walk around carrying his Kahili upside down. He shamed Hawaiians and the people of Hilo.

agree. Most Hawaiians feel that way and it is time to stand up to the fools misrepresenting Hawaiian views. BJ was a total embarrassment.
OHA made a TV commercial about 10 years ago featuring B.J. Penn urging people to sign up for the Kau Inoa racial registry. OHA made that video and broadcast it into the living rooms in Hawaii despite the fact that Penn had recently been arrested for beating up a police officer in a bar fight in Waikiki — as though that’s a good role model for Hawaiians.
A friend of mine created a video using each portion of Penn’s Kau Inoa TV commercial accompanied by a comment opposing Hawaiian racism. At about 1:55 in the video is a frame describing Penn’s ancestry. The whole video shows that the “B.J.” in Penn’s name stands for Big Jerk.

What kind of people pay money and get their jollies watching an event where the whole purpose is to injure, hurt and disable another person’s body?

BJ’s career ended when he started brawling in bars with civilians. No professional martial arts practitioner takes his art to the street. Throw in the towel and save us and yourself further embarrassment.

He didn’t put up a good fight and the speed difference was so wide. The young fighter practically kicked and punched him at will and Penn could not do anything about it. Just too slow to block the attacks. It looked pathetic and it looked like a sober person fighting against a drunk. He has no business fighting again after getting demolished his last few losses. If he keeps fighting, he’s going to keep damaging his brain.

True. Despite the anonymous critics, Penn’s record speaks for itself. One doesn’t have to “approve” of a sport in order to acknowledge the accomplishments of a practitioner.

the only superstar he beat was matt hughes..he couldn’t beat frankie edgar or gsp..all his other wins weren’t against superstars

Why twist the words? I said “approve”. Whether you “approve” of a sport or not, you can still acknowledge or appreciate the effort a successful competitor puts into it.

With the greatest respect to one of the Great MMA fighters, there is a time for everyone to retire. BJ’s reflexes and ability to absorb hits are fading. Did connect with a couple of good hits and the spirit is obviously willing and the fans still have the greatest respect for him but its time to retire and perhaps coach the up and coming stars.
Wasn’t this the 3rd fight in a row the BJ took dirty lickins? Also: To those who refer to BJ as one of the greatest MMA fighters, look at his overall record (16-11-2, 12-10-2), which is far from impressive.

CTE buddy–brain damage is not worth any money or macho claim–you’re done and be smart about it and retire w/ class..and stay retired. People around BJ ought to start talking to him–not to mention that the younger fighter kicked his Azz–it was a sad display of a one sided match—who wants to watch a slaughter. But the real important matter is the CTE–save your marbles so that you can use them as you get older
