High surf advisory in effect for north, east shores of most islands

    Kauai’s Koa Smith reached the semifinals of the HIC Pro at Oahu’s Sunset Beach in November. A high surf advisory is in effect for the east-facing shores of Oahu, Kaui, Molokai, Maui and Hawaii island through noon today.

A high surf advisory was extended for east-facing shores of Hawaii island through 6 p.m. today.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued the advisory around 10 a.m. today. There is also a high surf advisory for north- and west-facing shores of Oahu, Molokai, Kauai and Niihau and for north-facing shores of Maui starting 6 p.m. today.

A northwest swell is expected to build later today and tonight. Surf is expected to rise to 16 to 22 feet tonight through Wednesday.
