Two Oahu restaurants and four neighbor island resorts were named winners of AAA Five Diamond awards for 2017, the organization announced today.
New to the rankings is the Four Seasons Resort Lanai, one of only six properties added to the list of top-rated hotels this year. It joins the Big Island’s Four Seasons Resort Hualalai and Maui’s Ritz-Carlton Kapalua and Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, which have been five-diamond winners since the 1990s.
Among restaurants, Chef Mavro and La Mer in the Halekulani maintained their five-diamond ratings. Chef Mavro first earned its five diamonds in 2008; La Mer in 1990.
AAA inspector notes for the Four Seasons Resort Lanai mentioned the resort’s commitments both to the past and to the latest technology: “Accommodations are culturally contextual, giving a nod to Hawaiian aesthetics. Guests will find unsurpassed in-room technology, including a 75-inch flat-screen television, multi-option panel controls for lighting and window coverings and an in-room iPad loaded with resort information and guest request options.”
Receiving four-diamond recognition were 10 restaurants and 20 resorts. New to this list are the restaurants One Forty at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai, and on Maui, The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea and Mill House.
AAA designations of one through five diamonds are based on evaluations by professional inspectors. Nearly 59,000 restaurants and hotels have been awarded diamonds, the motor club says, but only 0.3 percent of those receive the top score of five diamonds.
