A Syrian family waited to register at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees headquarters, in Beirut, Lebanon today. By executive order, President Donald Trump imposed a 90-day ban, Friday, that affected travel to the U.S. by citizens of Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen and puts an indefinite hold on a program resettling Syrian refugees.

WASHINGTON >> President Donald Trump today denied his immigration order was to blame for the chaos at the nation’s airports over the weekend, instead pointing to computer glitches, protesters and even the “tears of Senator Schumer.”

Later he shifted the focus away from the weekend’s immigration turmoil, signing an executive action aimed at cutting regulations for small businesses. White House officials called the directive a “one in, two out” plan, requiring government agencies requesting a new regulation to identify two others they will cut.

Trump signed the order in the Oval Office surrounded by small business leaders, saying it would “massively” cut regulations and calling it the “biggest such act that our country has ever seen.”

Trump’s business announcement came as protests continued around the country over his immigration order. Early today, he took to Twitter to defend the move, saying that only 109 out of 325,000 people “were detained and held for questioning.” Trump also said swift action was important, noting that there are a “lot of bad ‘dudes’ out there.”

Trump’s order temporarily suspends all immigration for citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries for 90 days.

Democratic New York Sen. Schumer choked up over the weekend while talking about the repercussions from the ban, but that brought scorn from Trump.

“I noticed Chuck Schumer yesterday with fake tears – I’m going to ask him who was his acting coach, because I know him very well. I don’t see him as a crier,” Trump said at the White House today.

Top Trump aides compared the order to a 2011 policy on Iraqi refugees, when President Barack Obama imposed additional checks on Iraqi refugees after two Iraqis were charged with terrorism offenses in Kentucky. Unlike Trump’s order, the Obama policy applied only to Iraqi refugees and never specifically prohibited entry.

Meanwhile, Trump announced he will reveal his pick for the Supreme Court at 8 p.m. Tuesday. The court has had eight justices since the death last year of Justice Antonin Scalia. Obama nominated Merrick Garland for the post, but Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell refused to take up the nomination.

Trump enters his second week in office amid a global backlash to his policies. European Union officials denounced his immigration order as a dangerous embrace of isolationism and inequality, while the international aid group Doctors Without Borders accused Trump of keeping people “trapped in war zones, directly endangering their lives.”

In Iraq, two lawmakers said the Iraqi parliament has approved a “reciprocity measure” restricting the entry of Americans into Iraq.

Trump’s order does not address homegrown extremists already in America, a primary concern of federal law enforcement officials. And the list of countries in Trump’s order doesn’t include Saudi Arabia, where most of the Sept. 11 hijackers were from.

Trump’s take on the weekend turmoil: “Big problems at airports were caused by Delta computer outage, protesters and the tears of Senator Schumer.”

A Delta systems outage Sunday night led to departure delays and cancellations of at least 150 flights. However, the chaos started Saturday as protesters packed some of the country’s major airports to demonstrate against the executive order.

In the face of criticism, Trump says his order is not a “Muslim ban.”

A number of U.S. diplomats prepared a memo criticizing it.

In a “dissent cable,” being drafted for State Department leadership, the diplomats say the ban runs counter to American values and will fuel anti-American sentiment around the world. They say it won’t produce a drop in terror attacks in the U.S., but instead “a drop in international good will toward Americans.”

U.S. officials say several hundred diplomats have signed on.

The dissent cable originated in the State Department’s Consular Affairs bureau, which handles visas and whose employees are most directly affected by Trump’s order.

There appeared to be widespread confusion among authorities tasked with carrying out the order and how it would be applied to certain groups, such as U.S. legal permanent residents.

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly issued a statement Sunday saying that, absent information indicating a serious threat to public safety and welfare, citizens of the seven countries who hold permanent U.S. residency “green cards” will not be barred as officials had previously said. It remains unclear what kind of additional screening they will face.

Republican Ohio Sen. Rob Portman urged the new president to “slow down” and work with lawmakers on how best to tighten screening.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said today, “I think there are some people who might not like the way it was done, but they were all consulted in the process.”

A federal judge in New York has issued an emergency order temporarily barring the U.S. from deporting people from the seven nations. The order bars U.S. border agents from removing anyone who arrives in the U.S. with a valid visa from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen. It also covers anyone with an approved refugee application.

The Department of Homeland Security said Sunday the court ruling would not affect overall implementation of the White House order.

Several Democrats in Congress said they would be introducing legislation to stop the ban.

Associated Press writers Josh Lederman, Alicia Caldwell and Steve Peoples in Palm Springs, California, contributed to this report.

  1. latenightroach says:

But it was okay when Obama implemented travel restrictions in 2013 & 2015.

    • BluesBreaker says:

Obama’s were limited, carefully vetted with all agencies involved and in consultation with Congress and FAA, etc. Trump’s were done singlehandedly, without proper consultation and with willful neglect for the consequences. Apparently, Trump’s online followers are ready to leap to his defense, every time he does something stupid, unlawful and cruel.

    • OldDiver says:

Let’s just blame Obama for everything. I get it.

    • charlee808 says:

There is a difference between Obama’s travel restrictions and Trump’s travel ban. A restriction is “a limiting condition or measure” which still allowed travel to those not within the limiting conditions. A ban is to “officially exclude (someone) from a place” which does not allow any travel regardless of any conditions. They are very different.

    • allie says:

Face it: trump is an actor posing as a president. He is in no way, my president. Or yours. His fiasco this weekend needlessly shook the world. The stock market is crashing this morning as many are finally realizing what a dunce this man and his weird, bizarre set of advisors are.

      • BuhByeAloha says:

He is my president. I voted for him, and I stand behind him. He is making changes to this wonderful country that needed to be made. You don’t have to like him allie. You can bash him all you want. The constitution allows you that freedom. But I suggest you stop your crying and pitch in to help make positive changes to a United States that has been in a downward spiral for the last eight years.

        • FarmerDave says:

Ironic you mention the constitution. That’s exactly why Trumps acts are illegal.

        • kimo says:

BuhByeAloha, the USS Trump is sinking fast. Too many pukas under the waterline. Time to abandon ship. Get into a lifeboat while you can.

        • allie says:

I am a positive person but Trump is not credible as president. He still refuses to release his taxes which may reveal his corruption and his ties to Russian organized crime. He admitted that his election as rigged by a foreign government. We must all protect democracy and we shall.

        • sarge22 says:

Good to see Soros getting taken on across the globe now for his ‘political’ actions to promote the ‘one world order’ and ‘funding of the refugee crisis’ that has the EU nations in a real mess…

Not to mention his effort to affect the political landscapes of countries like the US as part of his effort to move towards a ‘one world order’….. There are reports that show how much of the liberal/Democratic ‘special interest’ groups he has been funding. Funding that I suspect without, many of these groups would close up operation altogether…

        • klastri says:

BuhByeAloha – Thanks for the suggestion to make positive changes today. I filed four lawsuits against Mr. Trump for his ridiculous, ham fisted Muslim ban, and that’s definitely an attempt at positive change. Trump is being flooded in lawsuits by thousands of volunteer lawyers. We actually had to turn away Arabic translators today at the airport because so many showed up.

It’s remarkable to see this many people rising up against an ignorant tyrant wannabe.

The ACLU raised $24 million online this weekend. That is six times their yearly average. Great days!

        • Vector says:

Yes this is a wonderful country, and I like many others love it dearly as well. And that is the reason we are opposing Trump and his aides, and cabinet, who will not make America more equal and free for all, but turn the US into another fascist, White racist Supremacist, xenophobic, misogynistic Christian Supremacist State and undermine our Constitution, our Democratic principles and values that make America Great for All, not just for the people who voted for Trump

        • advertiser1 says:

BuhBye, quite frankly to stick by someone just because you voted for him is stupid. And please tell us, in your own words what changes you are speaking of?

      • Andrew1 says:

The stock market crashed? Really? Just like how it “crashed” the day after Trump won? The way I look at it now is a great time to quickly buy some of tech or travel stocks before they bounce back up. The one thing many of us can face is that whatever Allie says is nothing but Shibai.

        • Vector says:

Andrew1, home sales have gone down, residential and commercial construction has gone down, auto sales have really gone done, consumer confidence and consumption, the major driver of our economy has gone down, since Trump has been President. With Trump’s ban against refugees disrupting travel and business, his trade war with China and Mexico, we will see increasing turmoil and uncertainty in business, and one thing the stock market does not like, uncertainty. Dow at 20,000 will shortly be a distant memory as long as Trump and his team are in office.

      • NanakuliBoss says:

The big orange/blond porky pig oink or tweets all important messages. Oink.

    • shanik says:

he didnt issue a EO to deny people with greencards who have lived here for decades to re-enter the country

    • allie says:

God bless those Republicans like Senator McCain who, as conservatives, are speaking out against Trump’s assault on America. True, Trump has support from dangerous white-wing extremists and a legion of duped voters who voted against their own interests. But, frankly, he looks done after only one disastrous week in office.

    • AlohaKakou says:

“I don’t see him as a crier.” Hahaha!

    • Vector says:

Trump’s denial of the refugee ban causing chaos and disruption, does not make it true. He just cannot stop lying at every tweet and turn.

  2. BluesBreaker says:

More doublethink from the Liar-in-Chief. Who you gonna believe, the Clown Prince of the Free World or your lying’ eyes when you massive protests at airports all over the nation and governors in red and blue states decrying the chaos he’s caused?

  3. 3ocean3000 says:

    What a delusional buffoon.

    • McKinley High says:

Trump should look in a mirror, to see who “the problem.” Would not be surprised if the of these some of these “persons of interest” entered the U.S. through the other side of the country.

      MCK

  4. 808comp says:

What a poor excuse. Saudi Arabia not included cause he have to protect his investments there.

  5. bumbai says:

The Airport cars was caused by liberal mobs who don’t care about the rule of law.

    • bumbai says:

….”chaos”….even their blog spell correction system puts out false information.

    • krusha says:

Rule of law? You mean the United States Constitution? The last time I checked, that was the rule of law for this land unlike what some dictator wannabe who is living in the White House right now thinks.

      • kiragirl says:

I am curious to know what was violated by our president. Please tell me.

        • FarmerDave says:

The violations to the constitution are listed in the Federal judges stay order.US Judge Ann M. Donnelly held that the petitioners had a “strong likelihood of success” in establishing that their removal “violates their rights to Due Process and Equal Protection guaranteed by the United States Constitution.”

      • Ronin006 says:

Krusha, please cite the specific provision or provisions of the Constitution that the Trump EO violates. Leading Democrats have said it was “immoral” and “un-American,” but I do not recall one of them saying it was un-Constitutional. Some portions of the EO may be, but that is for the courts to determine.

    • MoiLee says:

Bingo Bumbai! Don’t forget the Protesters are being Bought and Paid for by George Soros. “The Pies Piper” This guy is an Evil Man!
Agree! The Protesters are the ones holding up the Airports and causing all this Chaos. NOT President Trump!
BTW a new law has been introduced and will come to the Senate Floor or was it the House? Addressing Large Violent, Destructive Protest. I’d like to see what’s inside this bill. Would it require them to pick-up Bonding and Liability Insurance in tandem with the necessary permits? Make & hold them responsible when it’s not a “Peaceful Demonstration”. Sounds good to me!

  6. Wazdat says:

The left sure has lost their minds. Hilary LOST, get over it.

Do you people even read anymore ?

This is not a BAN this is a temporary order. If you nut jobs think letting anyone in the USA without proper vetting you are insane.

We finally have a President who takes action and is not pc or bought by special interest groups !

    • BuhByeAloha says:

      Well said Wasdat.

    • kimo says:

Wazdat, don’t forget that tyrants always use euphemisms such as “temporary order” to sugarcoat the harsher reality of policies that actually “ban.” Hitler’s henchman used “showers” for their gas chambers. The problem with whitewashing is the paint eventually washes off to reveal the reality.

  8. MoiLee says:

………Now why isn’t The MSM mentioning that Obama did the SAMETHING with Syrian people. Where was the outrage by our liberal Democrats back then ? Crickets!
And where was Mr Hair Plugs( Thanks Keonigohan lol) Schummer crying his Heart Out (Crocodile tears included) back then? This is all staged folks! And the Libs are Biting!

Now where is that speech President Clinton gave saying that Illegal Immigrants pose a great threat to our society. Where is that ? And where was all the outrage back then? Of course you know both of these Presidents were ……..Democrats. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Our Poor Liberal Friends are being played like some Stradivarius Violin. They havn’t figured it out yet ,but they are being “Played by The Pied Piper ” himself Mr. George Soros. Unless they Wake Up they’ll continue to be lead down this destructive path. You’ve ALL Been PLAYED.

    • Tita Girl says:

I didn’t see any tears from that bedwetter Chuckie Schumer. Fake tears to match his fake outrage. And that speech that Clinton gave re:illegal immigration received a Standing ovation and no protests.

    • klastri says:

Well, it’s because you are lying, and Mr. Obama did not do the same thing.

Mr. Trump enacted a religious test, and Mr. Obama is way too smart to do anything so ill advised and ignorant. Since Mr. Trump is a bigoted ignoramus, he didn’t realize that there are no religious tests required for entry into the U.S.

      Learn something today.

      • BuhByeAloha says:

You tell em klastri. You are so smart. You and boots are two peas in a pod.

      • davcon says:

IRT Klastri: your hatred towards President Trump continues to show through your ignorance. I thought you were smarter than that, President Trump is getting the best of you and the rest of you left wing radicals. A real legit attorney would never allow this to happen to themselves or act the way you do. Stop posing and climb back in your safe zone.

      • MoiLee says:

See this is what I mean ! Libs can’t take it! They are compelled time and time again to “Drop-In” on your Wave spreading their hatred and Lies! Stop Lying Klastri! You’r sinking again. In the meantime, here’s a poll for you to digest: 57% approves and supports President Trump’s Travel and Refugee ban. Is that also a LIE? So I ask. Are you the 33% who oppose? & FYI. This Ban has NOTHING to do with Religious rights or freedom! Please read up on it.
I’m still sensing, because your gal lost you have nothing better to do than call people names. This very immature and childlike. Typical Liberal.Get over it.

        • NanakuliBoss says:

See what I mean. Repugs are deplorabble and repulsive. 8 years of Obama and their prediction of USA falling off the cliff never happened. The economy back and jobs up. Watch how the orange baboon fk things up. He’s a wretched smelly old fart that likes to dangle in the locker room. Very ignorant.

        • advertiser1 says:

Moi, source of your poll please. Not disagreeing or saying it’s not true, just want to check it out for myself. And please tell us what the bad does have to do with…

      • Andrew1 says:

What in the world are you smoking Klastri? Where oh where do you come up with these fantasy land thoughts of yours? A religious test??? Really??? Hard to believe how ignorant many of the leftists really are.

      • Ronin006 says:

Klastri, liberals have short memories. They seem to have forgotten that Obama signed the Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act which restricted travel for seven Muslim-majority countries –Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Libya and Yemen, the same seven included in Trump’s temporary ban. Liberals did not freak out about it, nor did they freak out when the Obama administration banned travel from Iraq for six months in 2011 when Al-Qaeda operatives who entered the country as refugees were discovered in Kentucky. And it did not concern liberals that many of the visa applicants from Iraq who were denied entry worked as intelligence agents and interpreters for the U.S. military. Democrats found all of the foregoing okay because it was all done by a Democrat president, so why are you and other Democrats having mental breakdowns over what Trump is doing?

    • NanakuliBoss says:

Why would Soros benefit? Money? What?

  9. maile77 says:

The media forgot to say that it was a temporary ban…to allow us the time to assess the current situation and move forward as needed. Obama had a ban in 2013 and 2015. Nobody was enraged then. The libs are at it with their double standards, again. This is more about their anger with Trump winning the election.

    • charlee808 says:

There is a difference between Obama’s travel restrictions and Trump’s travel ban. A restriction is “a limiting condition or measure” which still allowed travel to those not within the limiting conditions. hippocrats didn’t think bill clinton’s anti-illegal alien speech that outlined programs to make america great and safe from illegal aliens would surface.

  12. kimo says:

Just another of an alarming number of examples where Trump is cutting off the nose to spite the face. The wheels of his presidency are coming off so quickly that impeachment is inevitable. We put a clown in the White House, so we really shouldn’t be surprised at the joke that’s turned against us. I use “we” here because those of us who did not vote for Trump failed to do more to ensure his defeat. So we’re just as much to blame as his supporters. To all his supporters who are jumping off his bandwagon in droves — smart move. It’s crashing and burning as we speak. He’s pau.

    • FarmerDave says:

My question about impeachment is when? In two years after the pendulum swings left after the next election cycle, or sooner. The conflict of interests are strong case, but the lawsuits that will establish violations from his executive orders will help.

      • kimo says:

Good question, FarmerDave. The number of house/senate votes needed is such that no president has ever been impeached, and the Republican control of these bodies makes the task even more difficult. But we’ve never had a president like Trump before, and the number of critics from his own side of the aisle is growing as we speak. I think the snowball is already rolling downhill and growing exponentially as it picks up fresh snow. Listening to Trump’s campaign rhetoric and actually seeing them transformed into presidential orders are two completely different things. The latter is sobering for those on the right who really didn’t take Trump seriously. Immigrant bans is just for starters. International relations and all that it implies is next. We won’t have to wait too long for that snowball to begin mushrooming, and the results could be disastrous. How long before the impeachment process begins? My guess is as soon as the rest of the world, especially our antagonists, begin to rattle their swords.

    • Andrew1 says:

Ummmm Kimo? Unless, you could have voted in Hawaii and in another state, you did all that you could do here in Hawaii. Hillary got all 4 of our electoral votes. I am thankful that we are such a small state and that the majority of the other states got it right in giving there electoral votes to Trump.

      • kimo says:

Ummmm, Andrew1, when it comes to elections, “do” can mean more than just voting. The web allows every citizen, in every state, instant access to national forums. Furthermore, nothing’s stopping a citizen in Hawaii from writing to family, friends, and colleagues in other states to share voting preferences. Finally, this was a national election, with consequences for everyone in the nation. Like it or not, we’re all one. Btw, mahalo for taking the time to comment. We may not agree politically, but we can appreciate our mutual concern for our country. Aloha.

  13. ready2go says:

Security reasons? Did the Homeland Security department put out a national security alert?

  14. davcon says:

The Democratic party and their left wing radicals will protest on anything President Trump does. These protests only have to do with the hatred and bitterness towards President Trump and his love for the American people. The Democratic party is slowly crumbling and out of control. These actions from the left are the reasons why President Trump won. Instead of all these useless protests the Democratic party should rally their troops and try to figure out why they got spanked in the election. Either put on your big boy pants and except the election results or climb back in your safe zone and cry, take Schumer with you. President Trump’s support base continues to strengthen due to the protests and resistance from the left, re-election will be a slam dunk. Eight years of America and Americans first.

    • btaim says:

It’s not as simplistic as you think with Republicans on one side and Democrats on the other. Many Republicans (including those in Congress) are against what Trump is doing. Also, have you forgotten that it was the clear and unambiguous mission of the Republican Congress under President Obama to say “no” to anything he proposed, and to stymie and block him at every turn? People have a right (and, in my view, a duty) to protest actions by the President (or by anyone else) where such actions are illegal and unconstitutional. Your view that people should not protest and simply give in to Trump is what happens in Russia and North Korea. We live in a democracy where society encourages and welcomes free speech and differing points of view.

  15. nuuanusam says:

Obama – Do nothing for a long time.
Trump – Try to do too much in a short time.
We have to find a middle ground.

  16. yobo says:

The Democrats have lost ‘Bigly’ and can’t come to grips with reality. That’s unfortunate.

‘Politically Correct’ is a thing of the past.

“Tears of Senator Schumer” was a reaction to all the policies of the past administration disappearing and under tense scrutiny.

The airport incident was merely ‘vetting’. Something POTUS promised in his election promise. Perhaps they should refer to a ‘Vetting’ process instead of ‘Muslim Ban’. Just because they possess a ‘green’ card does it mean they are NOT a Threat to the US.

    • MoiLee says:

Check that box! Oh BTW The Community Organizer is also (just today) voicing his opposition. Cripes! didn’t take him too long. I thought it was Presidential Policy not to Bad Mouth the incoming President. Oh Shucks forgot !Obama created a policy that you can!

      • klastri says:

Trump is going down in flames. A complete failure. There has never been a transition as incompetent as this one.

The entire country is rising up against him.

    • kimo says:

Yobo, with all due respect, “political correctness” is much more than the wishful thinking of diehard liberals. It’s the foundation for mutual respect that guarantees fair play among all the people of the world. It represents how each of us, including you, wants to be treated — fairly, equally, without bias. To push this fundamental principle aside to favor some over others may sound good to the “some,” but it can only lead to the kinds of resentment and conflict that eventually lead to war. We have a choice: work with the rest of the world in the spirit of political correctness or ignore the rest of the world and pursue our own dominance. History tells us that the latter choice isn’t going to work.

      • yobo says:

IRT kimo – I respect your viewpoint, however aren’t we already involved in a war?

They should refer to this airport/border screening as a ‘vetting’ rather than a Muslim/religious ban.

What I’m afraid of is another Paris, San Bernardino,2016 Orlando nightclub shooting or Boston (marathon) event happening here.

Can you imagine if one of these ‘radical jihad’s’ come to the islands and creating havoc? The police won’t be able to help us.

  17. Tanuki says:

This ban would not have prevented any terrorist acts in the U.S. after and including the 9/11 attack. It is just another knee-jerk, feel good, poorly thought-through reaction that will do a lot of harm abd no good. Terrorists are using this as confirmation for America’s anti-Muslim discrimination to recruit home-grown terrorists. That is the real threat. T is exhibiting text book paranoid dictator behavior by surrounding himself with people that will only feed him with things that he wants to hear, not what he needs to hear. Same goes for those of you who expect anyone who says anything contrary to be quiet and just fall in line. You may hope to get a T merit badge for loyalty but you and our country will be a loser in the end. He has a track record of being a con man who will say and promise anything the he feels people want to hear. He uses people to get what he wants and then stiffs them in the end. He cares only for what will benefit himself. Any kind of selection process goes by a person’s resume and track record. Why make an exception for this one? You bought the snake oil once. It’s OK to admit that you made a mistake but don’t keep on buying it!

    • yogaman says:

You bring up a good point regarding preventing 9/11. When the first attempt to blow up the World Trade Center failed, why didn’t our government go into a heighten state of alert regarding radical Islamic terrorist?? Maybe it did, but I was not aware of it. The new administration is trying prevent more attacks on US soil. For that, I applaud them. Homegrown terrorist is a related issue but will take a far different approach. A divided country will probably spawn more homegrown attacks. How do we come together as a nation is probably is probably the bigger question. 9/11 is a good reminder that we should not wait until we are attacked again to come together

      • Dai says:

You do know the majority of the 9/11 attackers were from Saudi Arabia right? The Bin Laden family were in America at the time of the attack.
I think since they are responsible for the largest amount of terrorist related deaths on American soil that they should be on the list, no?

    • Ronin006 says:

Tanuki, you say “Terrorists are using this as confirmation for America’s anti-Muslim discrimination to recruit home-grown terrorists.” On what is your comment based? Democrats said the same thing about the POW facility at Guantanamo Bay, but the major Islamic terrorist attacks in the U.S. and on U.S. facilities outside the U.S. occurred before the Guantanamo Bay facility was opened. Islamic terrorist groups had no problem recruiting Jihadists for those attacks. How do you explain that?

      • klastri says:

Ronin006 – It’s based on the fact that Bin Laden tried to get GW Bush to turn against Muslims, but he had the staff and the common sense that prevented that. This is exactly what Bin Laden hoped and predicted that the U.S. would do because of cowardice.

Trump’s cowardice is really shocking. Even you should be able to see that Trump is going down in flames.

Enough already attacking each other for different views on the issues. The media is controlling all of us to take sides which can lead up to anarchy. President Trump is our democratically elected leader.. Let’s all reocoginize the office and respect it by working together and demanding all our branches of government work together to find common ground.

The agenda is to keep America safe not discriminate against immigrants. We already tried the vetting process which is still a form of discrimination, the president’s order is a more extreme measure but again with the primary objective to keep America safe.

Any of you have a better solution or course of action.? Let’s hear it, debate it or add to it . Not call each other names!
I believe as a country united, we can overcome all obstacles. Let’s come together and demand that our politicians and leaders do the same!!!

Yogaman, your appeal for a civil discussion is well taken, but I respectfully question your logic. You say, “The agenda is to keep America safe not discriminate against immigrants.” No one disagrees with the goal of keeping our country safe. The disagreement is in the means. The ends don’t always justify the means. In this case, Trump is clearly violating the civil rights of a minority (immigrants from specific countries) for the safety of the majority. Constitutional rights aren’t necessarily majority rights. They’re also designed to protect the few from the whims and tyranny of the many. When we sweep minority rights under the rug, we end up with tyranny. For the leader of our country to be so woefully ignorant of our Constitution is difficult to comprehend. Fortunately, our system of government has the means to enforce the fundamental principles that serve our democracy.

Vetting is discrimination. The temporary ban is discrimination. Both are in the interest of safety of the American people. Both are wrong in a perfect world. Unfortunately, immigration from those parts of the world has made us vulnerable to terrorist attacks and citizens who do not feel the same love for the US that most of us have. The constitution is meaningless if we cannot protect our citizens.
If you have a better solution I would love to hear it.
