A 42-year-old Hilo woman has died from injuries sustained in a January single-vehicle crash that occurred in Captain Cook.
She has been identified as Chantel Kaaumoana.
Shortly before 9:30 p.m. Jan. 23, police said, a 1981 American Jeep driven by a 34-year-old Captain Cook woman was traveling west on Haku Nui Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The jeep overturned, and Kaaumoana was thrown from the vehicle. Police said she was taken to Kona Community Hospital and flown to The Queen’s Medical Center, where she died Wednesday.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The Hawaii Police Department has opened a negligent-homicide investigation. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call police officer Justin Hooser at 326-4646 or Crime- Stoppers at 961-8300.
Man hurt in North Kona collision dies
A 59-year-old Kailua-Kona man died from a collision that occurred in North Kona.
He has been identified as Robert Abeyta.
Just before 3:15 p.m. Thursday, police said, Abeyta was traveling north on Mamalahoa Highway in a motorized cycle when he swerved into the northbound lane and struck a 2009 GMC pickup truck driven by a 35-year-old Waimea man.
Police said Abeyta suffered critical injuries and was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he died.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

Bell stolen from temple in Wailuku
The temple bell at Wailuku Jodo Mission on Maui has been stolen, resident minister John Hara said.
“We don’t know exactly when it was stolen, but we are hoping that the public may know something or seen something,” Hara said Thursday night on Facebook.
The mission is in an old section of Wailuku at 67 Central Ave.
