Coast Guard looking for owner of adrift surfboard

The U.S. Coast Guard is asking the public’s help identifying the owner of an unmanned, adrift, 10-foot, blue and white surfboard found off Kaneohe Bay.

Watchstanders from the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu command center at 10:30 a.m. were notified by U.S. Marine Corps. Waterfront Operations of the unmanned surfboard.

They issued an urgent marine information broadcast notice to mariners and launched a helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point, along with a boat crew from U.S. Marine Corps. Waterfront Operations, to search the surrounding area.

There were no reported signs of distress or missing people in the area, officials said in a statement.

Anyone with information that could help identify the owner of the surfboard is asked to contact Coast Guard Sector Honolulu 808-842-2600.
