Woman sexually assaulted in elevator
A female student reported being sexually assaulted early Saturday morning by a man at the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s student housing, UH Manoa’s Department of Public Safety said in a campuswide announcement.
The woman entered an elevator at about 2:30 a.m., and when the door closed a man in the elevator allegedly began groping her. She then pushed him away and fled on another floor, the university said.
The university said the area was thoroughly checked, but no suspect was found.
The suspect is described as 6 feet 5 inches tall, with a muscular build, a dark complexion, a beard, dark hair with an afro top and shaved sides. He was wearing a purple jersey and shorts (unknown color).
UH spokesman Dan Meisenzahl said students need to report such incidents to ensure this kind of behavior is not tolerated, and to seek help.
The student in this case declined to call police, he said.
Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity or who sees someone matching the suspect’s description is asked to call the UH-Manoa Department of Public Safety at 956-6911 or police at 911.
