No tsunami threat to Hawaii after strong quake in Philippines
A strong earthquake struck the Philippines today, but there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
The preliminary magnitude 6.5 quake struck 6.7 miles south-southwest of Basilisa, Philippines at 4:03 a.m. Hawaii time at a depth of 9.3 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
“A destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii,” the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said in a tsunami information statement.
No serious injuries were immediately reported.
