A team from the Army’s 303rd Explosive Ordnance Battalion was called in to assess a suspicious package found outside a Fort DeRussy building in Waikiki.
Maj. Lindsey Elder said the team found it was a bag of rocks with a message to the FBI “that didn’t make much sense.” Police got the call at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Elder said the bag was outside Fort DeRussy’s Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies.
Fire damages Molokai Burger restaurant
A fire late Monday at a Molokai restaurant caused an estimated $150,000 in damage, the Maui Fire Department said Tuesday in a news release.
Molokai firefighters responded to a report of smoke at Molokai Burger at 11:19 p.m. Monday and found flames in the kitchen.
Firefighters had the blaze under control at 11:30 p.m. and extinguished it at about 1 a.m., the Fire Department said.
Fire investigators said the fire appeared to be accidental, but could not determine its exact cause.
