Firefighters responded to a single-story house fire Wednesday night in Kalaheo, Kauai.

They were on scene shortly after 11 p.m. and extinguished the fire within the hour, according to the Kauai Fire Department.

However, the house is considered to be a total loss, with roughly $200,000 in damages to the structure and its contents.

The male occupant escaped without injury; he’s being assissted by American Red Cross volunteers.

Fire officials say the fire appears to have started on the front porch of the home.

The cause remains under investigation.
