No. 4 Hawaii sweeps away No. 8 Stanford
Sophomore opposite Stijn van Tilburg put down 11 kills and No. 4 Hawaii set a school record for consecutive sets won when sweeping No. 8 Stanford 25-13, 25-19, 25-20 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation volleyball match tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Senior hitter Kupono Fey added 11 kills as the Rainbow Warriors clinched a berth in the MPSF playoffs.
A season-high crowd of 4,560 saw the Rainbow Warriors (20-2, 10-2) run their mark to 32 straight sets, eclipsing the record of 29 set by the 1996 squad. Hawaii has won 15 consecutive matches this season, 19 straight wins at home dating back to last year, 10 victories in a row in the MPSF and 11 straight MPSF wins at home dating back to last season.
Hawaii, the top blocking team in the country, finished with 13 tonight with freshman Patrick Gasman in on six.
Junior hitter Clay Jones led the Cardinal (11-9, 6-7) with 10 kills.
