Rainbow Wahine senior Heather Morales earned the Big West softball field player of the week award.

Hawaii senior Heather Morales’ hot week at the plate earned the Rainbow Wahine first baseman the Big West softball field player of the week award today.

Morales hit .524, scored three runs, drove in six and posted a 1.048 slugging percentage during UH’s 6-1 run last week. She began the week by going 4-for-6 with two home runs in a doubleheader sweep against Toledo last Tuesday. She also homered in another win over Toledo in the Outrigger Spring Fling Tournament.

Morales has hit safely in eight straight games entering this week’s Hawaii Pacific Health Rainbow Wahine Classic. She raised her batting average 87 points with last week’s 11-for-21 surge and ranks second on the team at .343. She also leads UH with 17 RBIs and is tied with Nicole Lopez for the team lead with five home runs.

UH (15-9) has won seven of its last eight games and closes the nonconference schedule with seven games in the five-day Rainbow Wahine Classic, starting with Tuesday’s 6 p.m. matchup with Connecticut. UH will also face Harvard, Purdue and Marist in the tournament.
