Police arrested a 59-year-old man after he allegedly burglarized a school in downtown Honolulu early Friday.
At approximately 1 a.m. police responded to an activated alarm at Central Middle School at 1302 Queen Emma St., said Donalyn Dela Cruz, spokeswoman for the state Department of Education.
Four laptops and Lego Robotics materials were stolen from a classroom. Police located a male suspect a short distance away at Queen Emma Square and recovered the stolen items.
Dela Cruz said it was unclear how he gained entry into the classroom as there was no damage to the locks.
Police said the 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary.
Kalihi man charged with domestic abuse
A 41-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly strangled a 60-year-old man in Kalihi.
Tyrone J. Knox was charged Thursday with abuse of a family or household member. His bail was set at $25,000.
At about 5 p.m. Sunday, police said, Knox and the victim, who live in the same home, got into an argument before Knox strangled him. He fled after police were called.
Officers arrested Knox on Tuesday at his Kalihi home.
Man, 26, charged in Kalihi store robbery
Prosecutors on Friday brought charges against a 26-year-old man for allegedly robbing a Kalihi store earlier this month.
Charles C. Rego was charged with second-degree robbery. His bail was set at $30,000.
Rego allegedly entered a Kalihi store at 11:25 a.m. March 4, grabbed some items and fled using force when the store owners, a 65-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man, tried to stop him. Police arrested him Wednesday.
Aiea woman arrested in assault incident
Police on Thursday arrested a 40-year-old Aiea woman who allegedly assaulted a 21-year-old woman using an unnamed “dangerous instrument” in Aiea.
Police said that the older woman struck the younger woman at about 5 p.m. Wednesday, then allegedly threatened her with the dangerous instrument.
The 40-year-old was arrested at 1:33 a.m. Thursday on suspicion of second-degree assault, first-degree terroristic threatening and carrying a dangerous weapon.
Man charged in Waikiki credit card theft
A 40-year-old man was charged in the theft of a credit card he allegedly used to purchase items in Waikiki.
Christopher J. Baccetti was charged Wednesday with unauthorized possession of confidential personal information, fraudulent use of a credit card and third-degree theft.
Police said Baccetti found a credit card belonging to a 61-year-old man in Waikiki on Tuesday and used it to make purchases. Officers located Baccetti on Kapahulu Avenue that afternoon and arrested him.
French woman died in Mauna Kea crash
A 35-year-old woman who died in a single-car crash on Hawaii island has been identified as Aurelie Vincent.
Vincent, of Vienne, France, died Sunday in a crash on Mauna Kea Access Road, approximately 1.2 miles from the visitor center. Police said Vincent was traveling in a 2001 Nissan SUV when the vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned several times.
She was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
