Three people were rescued Saturday after two girls were swept out to sea off Shipman Beach in Puna, firefighters said.
The current swept the girls away at about 2 p.m. and a man went into the ocean to help, firefighters said.
When firefighters arrived, they found all three in distress about 100 to 150 yards offshore. Firefighters picked up the group by helicopter. None of the three was injured.
1 dead, 1 injured in Kinau Street stabbing
One man died and one man was injured early Saturday morning in a stabbing on Kinau Street, authorities said.
Paramedics treated a stabbing victim, a man about 20 years old, an Emergency Medical Services report said. The man was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition. He later died, police said.
Paramedics also treated a second man, who is in his 20s, at the scene for undisclosed injuries and took him to a hospital in serious condition.
Police said a 26-year-old Waipahu man was arrested at 729 Kinau St. at 1:30 a.m. for investigation of second-degree murder.
