UCLA freshman Mariel Galdiano, playing in her first collegiate tournament back home in Hawaii since graduating from Punahou last year, shot a 1-under 71 at the Bay Course at Kapalua on Tuesday and is tied for ninth place at even par heading into today’s final round of the Anuenue Spring Break Classic.
Galdiano, who has three top-10 finishes in six tournaments this season, shot her seventh round of the season under par after opening with a 75.
The Bruins hold an eight-shot lead over Arizona State.
Colorado junior Brittany Fan, a 2014 Kamehameha alumna, is tied with Galdiano at even par after shooting a 2-over 74.
Santa Clara junior Kristin Le (Punahou ’14) is tied for 18th in the tournament at 5 over after shooting rounds of 74 and 75.
Her Broncos teammate, freshman Chloe Wong (‘Iolani ’16), is two shots behind Le in a tie for 23rd place at 7 over.
Wong is tied with Gonzaga senior Ciera Min (Waiakea ’13), who had consecutive birdies on Nos. 6 and 7 but had to settle for a 5-over 77 to drop to 7 over in the tournament.
Utah Valley redshirt freshman Kaylee Shimizu (Baldwin ’15) is tied for 48th place at 13 over and teammate Isabella Lesa (Moanalua ’15) is in 87th place at 37 over.
Albany freshman Annika Espino (La Pietra ’16) is tied for 84th place at 25 over.
Pedrina earns NAIA West honor
Lewis-Clark State junior Raymond Pedrina was named the NAIA West player of the week on Monday for the first time this season.
The center fielder, who graduated from Campbell in 2014, hit .400 (8-for-20) with four walks, a homer and eight runs scored in five games last week to help the Pioneers go 4-1.
Pedrina leads the team this season in hits (35), RBIs (28) and runs scored (26).
Lewis and Clark State leaves the country this week to play a five-game series against British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, starting Friday.
