2 snorkelers found dead at Hanauma Bay

A man and a woman were pronounced dead after being found separately in the water at Hanauma Bay late this afternoon.

Both were in their 20s, according to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services.

Ocean Safety found a male snorkeler about 200 yards from shore at about 5:22 p.m., according to Honolulu EMS.

Lifeguards brought the man to shore, and he was pronounced dead, after efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Shortly thereafter, fire officials were preparing to launch the search for another person, when lifeguards found a woman about 50 yards from shore.

The woman was brought ashore, and she was pronounced dead at the scene, after efforts were unsuccessful to revive her.

Honolulu Emergency Services said tonight that the incidents, along with the relationship between the two people, were under investigation.
