Some 30 volunteers deserve kudos for taking on a do-it-yourself effort through which a couple of concrete-obstacle upgrades were recently added to skateboarding park near Campbell High School.
Last year, after dozens of skateboarders complained about the 24-year-old park’s crumbling condition at a Ewa Neighborhood Board meeting, the Association of Skateboarders in Hawaii lined up volunteers and helped collect donations to pay for the $20,000 improvements project.
Another happy consequence: The city’s price tag for resurfacing the park’s asphalt with concrete will now be lower than an initial estimate of $185,000. Thanks to the new skateboarding obstacles, less concrete will be needed.
