Leeward Community College’s culinary program features 10 success stories at the 10th anniversary of L’ulu, the school’s major annual fundraiser.
The theme of the May 6 event is “A Feast for the Senses,” with the feasting to comprise dishes by a dozen Oahu restaurants and LCC’s student-run Pearl dining room.
Ten of those restaurants boast an LCC graduate either at the helm or in a leadership position. To mark the occasion, those alumni will be back on campus to work the event:
>> Randy Bangloy, executive chef, Eating House 1849, Kapolei
>> Axelrod Colobong, executive chef, Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar, Waikiki
>> Ron DeGuzman, executive chef, Stage
>> Jensen Hirota, chef-owner, Underdogs Sports Bar & Grill
>> Tish Koyanagi, sous chef, Moku Kitchen
>> Eric Oto, sous chef, Fish House
>> Ashley Shickan, sous chef, Plantation Tavern
>> Shaden Sato, banquet chef, Halekulani
>> Camille Cadiz, assistant sous chef, Alan Wong’s
>> Tory Ann Nakayama, junior sous chef, BLT Market
L’ulu will continue its tradition of featuring local farmers, who will have samples and displays next to the chefs using their products. Also, food meets fashion with a trunk show by “Project Runway” finalist Ari South.
The price of admission includes unlimited wine, spirits and other beverages; entertainment by Sonya Mendez & Chica Tropica and Noel Okimoto & Dean Taba; and a silent auction.
L’ulu is held on campus, in and around the school’s teaching kitchens. Tickets are $100 through Sunday; $125 after that. Call 455-0300.
