The Brigham Young-Hawaii men are in second place and the Hawaii Pacific women are third after the opening round of the Pacific West Conference Golf Championships on Monday at Turtle Bay Resort Fazio Course.
The Seasiders shot a 282 and are two strokes behind Holy Names in the 10-team men’s competition. Chaminade is tied for fourth at 294, Hawaii Hilo is sixth at 295 and Hawaii Pacific is eighth at 298.
BYU-Hawaii’s Nicolas Herrera is tied for third at 69. Holy Names’ Zach Simms leads at 67.
The Hawaii Pacific women are at 318, which is 12 strokes behind leader Academy of Art. Hawaii Hilo is seventh in the eight-team competition.
The Sharks’ Mint Chimsuti is tied for third at 76. California Baptist’s Samantha Martinez leads at 73.
UH’s Leung tied for fifth at Big West
The University of Hawaii’s Izzy Leung shot a 3-over-par 75 on Monday and is tied for fifth after the second round of the Big West Conference women’s golf championship in Riverside, Calif.
Leung, a senior, is at 147 at Oak Quarry Golf Club. Cal State Fullerton’s Martina Edberg leads at 139.
The Rainbow Wahine are tied for fourth at 601, which is 14 shots behind leader Cal Poly.
Zietz advances to fourth round in Indonesia
Hawaii’s Sebastian Zietz finished second in his third-round heat of the Komune Bali Pro on Monday in Keramas, Bali, Indonesia.
Zietz scored a 17.55 in a heat won by Australia’s Mitch Parkinson (18.85). Both advanced to the fourth round.
Hawaii’s Braiden Maither was eliminated after finishing fourth (10.20) in his third-round heat.
