A 36-year-old man who died this weekend after a fight in Kalihi was identified today by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office as Macky Veniegas, of Kalihi.

The cause of his death was pending, the office said.

Police said Emergency Medical Services personnel and firefighters responded to a report of an unconscious man at a Kalihi residence at about 12:10 a.m. Saturday.

A witness at the scene reported Veniegas, who had been fighting with another man, was beaten before he lost consciousness, police said.

Paramedics transported Veniegas to a hospital where he died shortly afterwards.

On Sunday afternoon, police arrested a 30-year-old man on Kahanu Street in Kalihi in connection with Veniegas’ death. The suspect was booked on suspicion of manslaughter and second-degree assault.
