A 23-year-old man has been charged with allegedly stabbing another man in Makiki.
Ak Yos was charged Thursday with attempted second-degree murder and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Police said Yos and a 35-year-old man were involved in an argument at a Kinau Street address.
The argument escalated and Yos allegedly stabbed the victim. Emergency Medical Services said the victim walked to Foodland on South Beretania Street where paramedics responded and transported him to The Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.
Furlough inmate goes missing
A 26-year-old furlough inmate has failed to return to the Women’s Community Correctional Center after she was scheduled to return Thursday night.
The state Department of Public Safety said Kawailani Awana was scheduled to return at 8 p.m. Awana is a community custody inmate with furlough pass privileges.
Sheriff’s deputies and police were notified of her failure to return.
Awana is described as 4 feet 11 inches tall, 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
She is serving a sentence for second-degree methamphetamine trafficking and second-degree escape. The Department of Public Safety said her next parole hearing is scheduled for August.
Anyone with information on Awana’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 or Sheriff Dispatch at 586-1352.
Boy, 12, arrested in assault case
Police arrested a 12-year-old boy after he allegedly assaulted an educational worker at a Kaimuki school.
At about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, police said, the suspect assaulted and threatened a 34-year-old man at the school. Police declined to say at which school the assault occurred.
Police arrested the boy on suspicion of second-degree assault and released him pending further investigation.
Man arrested in Lihue robbery
Kauai police arrested a 42-year-old Hanapepe man in connection with a bank robbery in Lihue.
Police located the suspect at a Niumalu residence at about 8:20 p.m. Thursday.
At about 10 a.m. that morning, police said, a man entered First Hawaiian Bank at 4423 Rice St. He passed a note to the teller that stated he had a gun. Police said he then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.
Shortly after the robbery, police issued a bulletin with surveillance photos asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect.
