Man, 26, killed in Nanakuli crash identified

A 26-year-old Waianae man died after he was involved in a single-vehicle crash in Nanakuli.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Jeremy Alan Castro. An autopsy is being conducted to determined the exact cause of death.

At about 10:15 p.m. Sunday, police said a vehicle operated by Castro was traveling southbound on Nanakuli Avenue at “a high rate of speed” when he lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the roadway onto a grassy shoulder.

The vehicle veered back onto the roadway and struck an unoccupied parked vehicle before the Piilaau Avenue intersection.

Police said the the vehicle then overturned and Castro was partially ejected from his vehicle. Emergency Medical Services said Castro was pinned by the vehicle. Firefighters arrived and extricated him.

Castro was transported to a hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead upon arrival.

Police said speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

This is the 15th traffic-related fatality this year compared to 14 at the same time last year.

Police are continuing their investigation.
