A snorkeler was pronounced dead after she was found unresponsive at Hanauma Bay.
She has been identified as Chae-Young Lee, 49, of Plainview, N.Y., according to the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office. An autopsy will be conducted.
Emergency Medical Services responded to a report of an unresponsive snorkeler at about 2:30 p.m. Monday. Lifeguards performed CPR on Lee until paramedics arrived. EMS treated Lee and transported her in critical condition to a hospital, where she died.
Earlier that day another snorkeler was found unresponsive in waters off Makua Beach in Waianae.
EMS spokeswoman Shayne Enright said a boat picked up the snorkeler, a 49-year-old man, at about 8:30 a.m. EMS transported him in critical condition to an area hospital, where he died. The man’s name has yet to be released.
Police said there were no signs of foul play in either case.
Driver killed in Big Isle crash is identified
A man who died in a crash in Keaau on Hawaii island has been identified as Travis Serquina, 31, of Keeau.
Serquina died Sunday night after a 2003 Mazda sedan traveling south on Highway 130 rear-ended a 1990 Toyota pickup truck driven by Serquina.
When police and firefighters arrived, they found the truck in flames. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, they discovered the burned body of a man partially outside the vehicle. Police said Serquina was identified by his fingerprints.
The sedan driver, a 26-year-old Keaau man, fled on foot after the crash. Police found him shortly afterward and arrested him on suspicion of negligent homicide, driving under the influence of intoxicants and other offenses.
Waianae bank robbery suspect arrested
Police captured a 54-year-old man who allegedly robbed a bank in Waianae last week.
Officers located the suspect Monday morning on Makau Street in Makaha. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery, violation of supervised release, promoting a dangerous drug in the third degree and drug paraphernalia.
The robbery occurred at about 11:07 a.m. Wednesday at American Savings Bank in Waianae, 86-120 Farrington Highway. Police said the suspect handed a demand note to a teller. After the teller gave him an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled in an unknown direction.
