Fresno State sophomore right-hander Kamalani Dung, a 2015 Kamehameha graduate, was named the Mountain West Conference pitcher of the year on Wednesday.
Dung is 25-13 overall this season with a 2.17 ERA and a MWC-best 202 strikeouts in 2381⁄3 innings.
She has thrown every pitch in the Bulldogs’ last nine games and went 8-1 during that span to help FSU advance to the NCAA tournament.
In conference play, Dung went 13-6 with a 2.04 ERA and 99 strikeouts in 120 innings with 16 complete games.
“What Kama was able to do over 19 games is remarkable,” Fresno State head coach Linda Garza said in a press release. “It’s great to see her work ethic and success get rewarded. She was the most dominant pitcher in conference this year and very deserving of this prestigious award.”
Fresno State earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA tournament and opens play Friday against No. 2 seed Michigan in the Seattle regional. ESPN2 is scheduled to broadcast the game at 3 p.m.
