The Kauai Fire Department rescued a woman at the Waimea Canyon Trail.

A 24-year-old woman from Tucson, Ariz., escaped serious injury today after she fell while hiking along the Waimea Canyon Trail and was left hanging off the side of a steep cliff.

According to a Kauai Fire Department news release, the woman had been looking over the edge of a cliff shortly after noon when she slipped and fell about 25 feet.

A witness to the incident called for help and provided rescuers with the satellite coordinates of the woman’s location.

Fire rescue personnel found the woman hanging on to two small boulders and used a rescue strop to safely transport her across a canyon to Porter’s Landing Zone.

The woman sustained minor injuries to her knees, elbows and hands and refused further treatment.
