UH can’t hold early lead, falls to Long Beach State

Kekai Rios hit a two-run homer in the first to stake the ’Bows to a 2-0 lead. But the Dirtbags scored three runs in the second, one in the fourth and three more in the fifth to move out of reach.

Lucas Tancas and Brooks Stotler each drove in two runs to lead seventh-ranked Long Beach State to an 8-4 baseball victory over Hawaii today at Blair Field.

Kekai Rios hit a two-run homer in the first to stake the ’Bows to a 2-0 lead. But the Dirtbags scored three runs in the second, one in the fourth and three more in the fifth to move out of reach.

John Sheaks lasted only one inning for the Dirtbags, but four relieves held the ’Bows to six hits the rest of the way.

By winning Friday and today, the Dirtbags won their ninth series in a row. The teams conclude the three-game Big West series Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. Hawaii time.

The ’Bows, who fell to 8-12 in the Big West, must win their final four games to finish the season 12-12 for the third season in a row.
