Our dispensaries’ doors haven’t even opened — yet Hawaii is already scoring a “B” and ranked among states as having the fifth-best medical marijuana program, according to a recent report card for new distribution programs. Issued by Americans for Safe Access, a nonprofit that advocates for safe and legal access to cannabis for therapeutic use and research, the report looked at patient rights, access to medicine, ease of navigation, functionality and product safety protocols.
“Hawaii is on track to become one of the best programs in the country if they continue with their timely implementation,” said the report card. Timely? That much is debatable. Dispensaries, which initially had the go-ahead to open last July, are now expected to launch later this year, though Hawaii legalized medical cannabis in 2000. Still waiting.
