3 more mumps cases confirmed

Three more mumps cases have been confirmed on Oahu, bringing the total number of cases to 58 this year, the state Health Department said Thursday.

The new cases involve two children and one adult, all of whom are connected to previous cases on Oahu, the Health Department said.

None of the patients required hospitalization, and no schools were affected.

The Health Department said it expects to see more cases across Hawaii because “the viral disease is highly contagious and circulating on Oahu.”

Symptoms often include a tender, swollen jaw, fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness and loss of appetite. Some patients can have very mild symtoms or even no symptoms.
