Hawaii County police said the driver of a four-door sedan died Wednesday morning after a three-vehicle crash in Paauilo.
Police are withholding his name pending notification of his family.
Police got a call at 9:04 a.m. that a sedan was heading toward Hilo on Highway 19 when it crossed the centerline near the 37-mile marker and hit head-on a 2007 Kenworth dump truck towing a flatbed trailer. The sedan was pushed into the path of a Hilo-bound 2016 Jeep Wrangler.
The sedan driver was ejected and pinned under the bed of the trailer. He was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he died, police and the Hawaii County Fire Department said.
