Three Windward Oahu liquor stores were robbed Sunday, leading police to suspect at least the first two of the three robberies are related.
Shortly after Kainehe Liquor opened Sunday morning, two males wearing hoodies entered and tried to take the cash register.
Police said the register cord got caught, and the males fled empty-handed.
The 67-year-old owner did not try to stop the robbers.
That robbery occurred at 7:37 a.m. at 11 Kainehe St. near the entrance to Kailua.
Less than a half-hour later at 8 a.m., two masked males entered Angie’s Market at 44-748 Kaneohe Bay Drive in Kaneohe and grabbed the cash register with $300 in it, police said.
Then at 10:14 p.m. three men in their 20s robbed Keolu Market at 1090 Keolu Drive in Enchanted Lake.
Police said the men entered the liquor store and picked up several bottles of alcohol and walked toward the exit.
The owner, a 62-year-old man, tried to stop the men, and a struggle ensued.
One of the men struck the owner with a bottle. A 53-year-old female employee pepper-sprayed the other two men, police said. All three men fled before police arrived.
The case is classified as a first-degree robbery.
