Residents pack neighborhood board hearing on Kahala hotel easement

    The Kahala Hotel & Resort says its request to increase its beach easement is aimed at legitimizing the hotel’s historic use of the beach for weddings and guests. The hotel says the public can still use this part of the beach. However, some residents are objecting that it takes shoreline away from the public.

    The Kahala Hotel & Resort has put in a request to the Board of Land and Natural Resources to increase its beach easement.

The Kahala Hotel & Resort’s quest to obtain a rare nonexclusive easement to use about an acre of public shoreline for commercial enterprises drew harsh criticism from a packed crowd at the Waialae-Kahala Neighborhood Board meeting Thursday night. Read more
