The state Attorney General’s Office last week charged five convicted sex offenders with failure to register, a Class C felony.
In a news release, Attorney General Doug Chin said the following men were charged between April and June, and bench warrants were issued for the arrests of four of the five.
>> Glen T. Meyers Sr. was convicted in 1992 of second-degree sexual assault and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment. Meyers had multiple failures to register, including failure to notify the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center of a change in registration information and failure to report in person to police within 30 days following his birthday. He was charged with five counts of failure to comply with covered offender registration requirements.
>> Theodore Haudenshild was convicted in 1988 of second-degree sexual assault and sentenced to 10 years in prison. He failed from November 2009 to June to comply with notifying
HCJDC of a change in registration information. He was charged with one count of failure to comply with covered offender registration requirements.
>> James Kula III was convicted in 1992 of second-degree sexual assault and kidnapping and sentenced to 10 years’ incarceration. He was also convicted on three separate occasions of drug charges, and was released Dec. 22. He failed to register from then to January and failed in March to register in person. Kula was charged with three counts of failure to comply with offender registration requirements.
>> Sheldon B. Collier was convicted in 1984 of the equivalent of first-degree sexual assault and first-degree sexual abuse. He was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment. He was required to register following his release. He has failed to notify the HCJDC of changes to his information from October 2013 through June, and failed to register in person from 2015 to 2017. The state charged him with four counts of failure to comply.
>> Kenneth Scott Char, convicted in 1991 of second-degree sexual offense and second-degree rape in Maryland, began registering in Hawaii in 1998. He has failed to notify the HCJDC of changes of his registration information and failed to report in person from 2015 to 2017. He was charged with four counts of failure to comply.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of all but Meyers, who is in custody, is asked to call the Investigations Division of the Attorney General’s Office at 586-1240.
