The Hawaii State Junior Golf Association named its traveling teams last week after the conclusion of state championships.
The HSJGA will send players to Junior America’s Cup and Girls Junior America’s Cup, and the Eddie Hogan and Mary Cave Cups.
Golfers were selected based on accumulated points as of June 21. Representing Hawaii are:
Junior America’s Cup (July 23-27 at Dupont, Wash.): Davis Lee, Evan Kawai, Remington Hirano, Pono Yanagi.
Girls Junior America’s Cup (July 31-Aug. 3 at Las Vegas): Malia Nam, Claire Choi, Allysha Mae Mateo, Alanis Sakuma.
Mary Cave Cup (Aug. 7-9 at El Cajon, Calif.): Danielle Ujimori, Miki Manta, Lana Calibuso-Kwee, Reese Guzman.
Eddie Hogan Cup (Aug. 11-13 at Portland): Trevor Arashiro, Andrew Otani, Alex Kam, AJ Teraoka.
Kono finishes 18th at Symetra Tour tourney
Honolulu’s Stephanie Kono finished in a 10-way tie for 18th at last week’s Island Resort Championship. The Symetra Tour event in Michigan was cut to 36 holes due to bad weather and conditions.
The Punahou graduate shot 72-70 and collected $1,754. She was seven shots behind winner Emma Talley, the 2015 NCAA champion.
Halfway through the Symetra season, Kono is ranked 46th on the money list with $9,088. The top 10 at the end of the year get their LPGA card for 2018.
Kono, Kristina Merkle (Moanalua) and Nicole Sakamoto (Kalani) are all in the field at this week’s Tullymore Classic, also in Michigan.
Hawaii’s Cyd Okino tied for 35th on the Japan LPGA Step-Up tour last week, shooting 72-74-72 She made $1,240 and is now headed to the third stage of qualifying for the main tour.
