A five-day, multiagency operation resulted in the arrest of 80 fugitives on Oahu last week.
The U.S. Marshals Task Force and the Honolulu Police Department initiated the operation June 26 with officers and agents tracking down fugitives across the island.
The fugitives were wanted for various crimes including homicide, assault, robbery, firearms and explosives, sex assault, drugs and organized crime.
In addition to the arrests, law enforcement officers also executed 171 outstanding state arrest warrants and generated a total bail amount of over $3 million, according to a news release.
“This operation sends a strong message that fugitives on Oahu will be tracked down and apprehended,” Honolulu police Acting Chief Cary Okimoto said in a release. “Taking dangerous individuals off the street is one way of making Honolulu safer, and we thank our federal and state partners for helping to accomplish this.”
The operation, ending Friday, included the Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Reduction Unit and federal agents of the U.S. Marshals Service; FBI; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; U.S. Customs and Border Protection; and the U.S. Social Security Administration’s Office of Investigations.
