Nissan North America has extended its $10,000 rebate on the all-electric Nissan Leaf car for Hawaiian Electric Co. customers for the second time.
HECO said Friday that electrical utility customers on Oahu, Hawaii island and in Maui County who present their utility bills to participating Nissan dealers will qualify for $10,000 off the sticker price of a Leaf. Nissan extended the rebate through September, after the manufacturer changed the cutoff for the rebate to June 30 from the original deadline in March.
Nissan and HECO originally announced the promotion Jan. 25. Customers had to have deposits down by the end of March, and the car had to be delivered in April for the new EV owners to qualify.
When combining the rebate with federal tax incentives, some customers are able to save up to $17,500 on a 2016-17 Nissan Leaf.
