The first set of brothers and a two-time Olympic champion are among the five who will be inducted into the Hawaii Waterman Hall of Fame on Aug. 24.
The Class of 2017 is comprised of Jim and John Foti, part of five Molokai Hoe championship teams; two-time Olympic swimming gold medalist Pokey Watson Richardson; the late Tommy Holmes, co-founder of the Polynesian Voyaging Society and author of “The Hawaiian Canoe,” the definitive book on the history of the outrigger canoe; and Tim Guard, three-time Molokai Hoe champion and community advocate.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Outrigger Canoe Club. Individual tickets are $125 with table sponsorships available.
