Manu O Ke Kai edged Na Keiki O Ka Mo’i by 13 points to win the AAA Division in the Na ‘Ohana O Na Hui Wa’a Waikiki Beach Boys Regatta on Saturday at Waikiki Beach.
Kaneohe was the top club out of six in the AA Division, holding on with 27 points to beat I Mua and Alapa Hoe, which tied for second with 25 points.
Lahui O Koolauloa squeaked out a one-point advantage over Waikiki Beach Boys to win the A Division.
The Oahu Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association’s John D. Kaupiko Regatta is today beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base.
Iosia leads U.S. over Cuba
University of Hawaii incoming sophomore setter Norene Iosia had a double-double to lead the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team to a 31-29, 25-20, 25-23 sweep of Cuba in a pool-play match of the FIVB U20 World Championship in Boca del Rio, Mexico.
Iosia had 24 assists and 12 digs, as well as four aces, two kills and a block as the U.S. improved to 1-1 at Arena Veracruz. The Americans take on Serbia (1-1) today in the final Pool C match.
Pennybacker to speak at Quarterback Club
Honolulu Star-Advertiser feature writer Mindy Pennybacker will be the next speaker at the Honolulu Quarterback Club’s meeting on Monday.
Pennybacker’s surf column “In the Lineup” discusses Hawaii ocean-goers and their regular spots from the beach to beyond the ocean.
The meeting will take place at the Maple Garden Restaurant. Lunch costs $16 per person and will be served at 11:30 a.m., while the program begins at noon.
