YOKOHAMA >> The Royal Express tourist train, which connects Yokohama and the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture, made its debut Friday. Izukyu Corp. and Tokyu Corp. are operating the train.

The first train left JR Yokohama Station around noon. The trip takes about three hours to Izukyu-Shimoda Station in Shimoda at the end of the peninsula, via JR East’s Tokaido Line tracks. The train’s deep blue exterior evokes the sea, while its interior features wooden materials.

Passengers can enjoy live piano performances, as well as regional cuisine with ingredients from the Izu area in the dining cars. Wedding ceremonies can also be held on the train.

The train’s passenger capacity is about 100, and there are two types of travel plans: a one-way trip with meals and a round trip including overnight accommodations at the destinations. The train is scheduled to run about two days a week.
